La Voz de Noah Foundation: Empowering Women in the Dominican Republic

At La Voz de Noah Foundation, our mission is to empower women working in the tourism sector and the sex work industry across the Dominican Republic. We are committed to providing comprehensive support, encompassing physical, psychological, and social well-being, so that every woman can reclaim her dignity, self-esteem, and overall health. We aim to be a space of hope and transformation, where women can find the confidence to move toward a better future.

The La Voz de Noah Foundation is dedicated to supporting women in vulnerable sectors of the Dominican Republic. Through our psychoeducational program, Las Princesas, we aim to organize and empower women, starting in Sosúa, who face legal and social challenges. In the Dominican Republic, the constitution does not explicitly address certain forms of work, leaving women in these sectors without legal recognition or protection. This legal limbo results in significant hardships, including lack of access to private health insurance, banking services, and other basic rights. These limitations contribute to feelings of marginalization and hinder women’s ability to fully participate in society. Our mission is to provide the support and advocacy needed to help these women reclaim their dignity, rights, and a brighter future.

The Hidden Challenges in Tourism-Dependent Regions:

In popular travel destinations, many vulnerable individuals, often from marginalized communities, face significant risks due to the pressures of an unregulated tourism industry. These individuals are sometimes coerced or forced into exploitative situations, lacking the legal protections and support they need to escape. This highlights the urgent need for stronger advocacy, legal frameworks, and resources to protect and empower those most at risk in these communities.

The Impact of Tourism on Vulnerable Communities:

The global tourism industry, while a significant economic driver, can also contribute to the exploitation and abuse of vulnerable individuals in popular destinations. In many tourist-heavy regions, economic pressures create environments where individuals, particularly from marginalized communities, are at risk of being coerced into exploitative situations to meet the demands of visitors. This reality underscores the need for stronger protections, legal frameworks, and community-based initiatives to support and empower those at risk.

Our Approach

Through psychoeducational programs and emotional support, we equip women with the necessary tools to create positive change in their lives, both within and outside the workplace. At our foundation, we offer a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment where women can access resources to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. La Voz de Noah is more than just a space of support; it is a place where every woman feels heard, supported, and understood on her journey toward a healthier, empowered future.

Our Vision

At La Voz de Noah, our vision is to transform lives. We focus on the overall well-being, empowerment, and emotional health of each woman who connects with our foundation. We believe that, although external circumstances can be difficult, every woman has the right and the opportunity to rediscover her values and strengthen her voice. We are here to provide the tools that allow each woman to regain control of her life and future.

What We Offer

We offer workshops, seminars, and individual sessions that promote emotional resilience and personal empowerment. We provide access to physical and mental health services, including regular check-ups, therapy, and stress management programs to ensure women have the support needed to take care. Proposing a work schedule that accommodates both professional responsibilities and educational opportunities can foster stability. The legal recognition of their profession must translate into respect and protection, ensuring they are treated with dignity.

About La Voz de Noah

La Voz de Noah is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and protecting individuals who face abuse and exploitation in vulnerable situations. We provide comprehensive services, including emergency support, legal advocacy, trauma-informed counseling, and safe housing for those trapped in abusive or trafficking situations. Our mission is to empower women with the resources they need to escape exploitation, rebuild their lives, and advocate for systemic change. At La Voz de Noah, we believe in the dignity, rights, and humanity of every individual, and we strive to create a world where all women are safe, respected, and free from abuse.

The Current Landscape

In popular tourist destinations like Sosúa and Punta Cana, many individuals in vulnerable sectors of the local economy face significant challenges. Without basic legal protections or rights, they are often denied access to essential services such as bank accounts, making it difficult to achieve financial stability. Our mission is to provide support and advocacy to help these individuals secure their rights, access critical services, and build a better future for themselves.
